The Las Vegas Strip Circuit was first added to the Formula One calendar for the 2023 season. The track is 3.853 miles (6.201 kilometres) long.
The history of F1 racing in Las Vegas dates back to the early 80s when Las Vegas hosted the Caesars Palace Grand Prix.
The first Caesars Palace Grand Prix took place on October 17, 1981. It was the final race of the 1981 Formula 1 World Championship season. The race was held on a temporary street circuit set up in the parking lot of the Caesars Palace Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Australian driver Alan Jones, racing for the Williams team, won the race. Nelson Piquet finished in fifth place and it was enough to secure the Drivers' Championship title for the 1981 season.
The Caesars Palace Grand Prix returned for a second and final time on September 25, 1982. Like the previous year, the race served as the season finale for the 1982 Formula 1 World Championship. Italian driver Michele Alboreto, driving for the Tyrrell team, emerged victorious in this edition of the race, meanwhile, Keke Rosberg secured the title with fifth place.
Despite its glamorous location and status as a season-ending event, the Caesars Palace Grand Prix faced challenges.
The temporary street circuit was criticised for its lack of character and technical challenge, as well as concerns about safety barriers and track conditions. Additionally, the races struggled to attract large crowds and failed to generate sustained interest among fans.
However, F1 returned to the so-called “Sin City” in 2023 - this time under Las Vegas Grand Prix manners.
Nestled in the vibrant heart of Las Vegas, the new 3.853-mile (6.201 kilometres) street circuit boasts 17 exhilarating turns, weaving through iconic landmarks such as Caesars Palace, the Bellagio, and the Venetian.
The first Las Vegas Grand Prix was won by Max Verstappen in 2023.
